UB is a federally funded program providing college and career preparatory support and guidance to students from limited-income families or who are potential first-generation college students. Services include tutoring, counseling, mentoring, summer courses, and financial literacy training.
We offer one-on-one weekly advising sessions, tutoring, financial aid workshops, field trips to colleges and universities, community service projects, and our annual Summer College Simulation and Field Studies program. We strongly encourage all participants to actively engage in as many of these activities and services as possible.
Upward Bound provides all services and activities free of charge to its participants. Your family pays nothing.
Eligibility is determined by federal guidelines, which include U.S. citizenship or permanent residency, and demonstrated academic and financial need. Because the goal of Upward Bound is to support students who will (1) be the first in their family to obtain a college degree and (2) those from limited-income backgrounds, preference is given to those applicants meeting both criteria. In competitive situations, applications will be carefully reviewed and eligible participants will be selected based upon the quality of their application and interview.
If your child is not eligible for services, we will provide your family with information on other programs in your community offering similar services.
